Case: Case study on CO2 refrigeration at Danish organic food company

Client

Danfoss Cooling

Time

2018

Description

When Danish organic food company Aarstiderne needed to expand the refrigeration systems at its site in Barritskov, Denmark in 2017, they chose a CO2 refrigeration solution from Danfoss. The use of CO2 as a refrigerant in food retail is on the rise, and for good reasons: The gas is far more climate friendly than traditional refrigerants, and CO2 is therefore a perfect match for the company philosophy at Aarstiderne. For years, Danfoss has pioneered the development of CO2 refrigeration. Through an installation company, Danfoss delivered many of the main components for a solution that was commissioned at Barritskov in the spring of 2018.

I was asked to write a case study about the project. Visiting Barritskov, I interviewed Aarstiderne COO/CFO Thomas Slott as well as the owner of the installation company. Their input provided the basis for a text that focused on the financial advantages of the solution (significantly lower operating costs), the possibilities for expanding the system as needed thanks to its flexibility – and of course the climate benefits of the solution.

The solution shows that caring for our climate and the environment is definitely compatible with growth ambitions, which was a very important point for Aarstiderne and Danfoss alike. "To me, the environmental and financial considerations go hand in hand. And it has worked perfectly. It’s a real win-win situation!", said Thomas Slott during the interview.

Once the final case study had been approved, I translated it into English and edited it for use abroad.

The client says

Marketing Communications Director Dorthe Borup Sindberg, Danfoss Cooling:
"Refrigeration is a complex matter, but Rasmus was quick to grasp the subject and as a result asked the right questions with all involved parties. The result was a case study that makes for relevant reading for refrigeration technicians as well as companies looking for more climate friendly refrigeration solutions. Working with Rasmus was a very positive experience, and we have received positive feedback on the story. As a result, we have subsequently continued the good collaboration with Rasmus."
